WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS "SAME DAY EDIT" (SDE) YOU SPEAK OF?
I'm not going to lie, it's kind of awesome. The Same Day Edit (SDE) is the same as your cinematic highlight video, but edited the day of the wedding in time to be shown to all your guests while they enjoy their cake. The SDE is a great way to do something unique for your reception and I guarantee your guests will be blown away at the sheer novelty of it (in addition to how beautiful I'll make you look). If you ever wanted to feel like a rock star for 5 minutes, the SDE is your chance. I sure do love watching the bride's and groom's faces while they watch their SDE:
DO YOU SUPPLY THE PROJECTOR AND SCREEN FOR THE SDE?
Yes!
WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT THAN OTHER VIDEOGRAPHERS?
The quality of my work, in my humble opinion, far surpasses the majority of videographers out there. I'm constantly investing in new equipment and learning new techniques to keep my work above and beyond what most people expect from a wedding video. I'm also a person, not a company. This means you know who will be taking care of you before, during, and after the wedding. I edit everything myself, no outsourcing. I'm also extremely easy to work with... I respond very quickly to all emails (I even talk to you like a real person rather than sending an automated response!) and let you blow up my personal phone with texts any time. I'm laid back while shooting and a ninja when it comes to being unobtrusive on the big day. Oh right, and you get your finished product within 2 weeks (crazy, I know).
DO I HAVE TO FEED YOU?
Nope, but I sure hope you will! It's okay though, I always carry peanut butter in my bag just in case.
Speaking of food though.. if you DO feed us or any of your vendors, PLEASE instruct (insist!) your caterer to feed the vendors either first or at the same time as everyone else. Many caterers will feed the vendors last because we aren't as important as guests. I certainly understand their thinking... but what they fail to realize is that this means the vendors who need to capture/record/DJ the main events (speeches/dances/etc) are receiving their food at the exact moment that events start up again :/
WHAT IF YOU'RE ALREADY BOOKED???
Then I’ll have the pleasure of introducing you to my other company/brainchild - Shutter and Sound.
They’ll take fantastic care of you.
I LIVE IN ANOTHER STATE AND CAN'T AFFORD TO FLY YOU OUT HERE!
Have you heard of my other company/brainchild - Shutter and Sound?? Check 'em out!
YOU COST THE SAME AS PHOTOGRAPHERS... I THOUGHT VIDEO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CHEAPER??
I do, now let me explain. Back in the day videographers used to just hold big clunky cameras on their shoulder and hit record from the corner of the room... so for decades it became common knowledge that videographers cost less, and are worth less, than photographers. This is why even today we are still generally the last vendor that a couple will book, and most couples don't hire a videographer at all.
BIG MISTAKE. 98% of couples regret not hiring a videographer.
Videographers used to just document the day with no real skill or art involved, but times have changed and videography is now an art form every bit as much as photography. Not only that, but photographers only capture a split second of a moment... we capture the whole thing. So this, and all the reasons listed above in "what makes you different", is why I cost the same as [good] photography. We do, however, offer lower pricing for winter weddings (Dec 1st - Mar 1st).
WHO DO YOU SHOOT WITH?
I shoot with my beautiful wife, Kate. We met in film school :)
YOU'RE MARRIED, EY? ANY ADVICE FOR US FOR THE WEDDING?
-If you want great photos and video, help yourself out and read this
-If you have the funds, hire a coordinator (at least a day-of coordinator). You won't fully realize how much you're undertaking by doing it yourself until it's too late.
-Finish EVERYTHING by the day before the rehearsal... leave that day for relaxing and de-stressing. Something we didn't realize is that the wedding craziness essentially starts when you open your eyes the morning of the rehearsal.
-RECORD THE TOASTS AT THE REHEARSAL DINNER!
-Try to at least say "hi" to everyone that attends.
-Seriously, a year of planning then you'll blink and the day will be over... and you won't remember much. So hire a videographer. If you don't hire me, no worries, but hire SOMEONE.
-Don't let anything get you down, things WILL go wrong... just roll with it.
-Pee before putting on your dress.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE MULTI-CAM EDIT?
I have 2 goals... to give you an amazing artsy highlight video that can sum up the whole day in 4 minutes, and to also give you the ability to re-live all the important parts of the day from start to finish without music or flashy/distracting shots. The first is achieved with the highlight video/SDE, the second with the MULT-CAM EDIT. The multi-cam edit is a straight-forward account of the main events of the day, no music added. Each event is edited between multiple cameras and played out in its entirety. The multi-cam edit includes the entire ceremony and (if applicable): Grand Entrance, First Dance, Speeches, Father-Daughter/Mother-Son Dances, Cake Cutting, and Bouquet/Garter Toss.
HOW DO YOU WORK WITH PHOTOGRAPHERS? CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY THAT YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH??
We are total team players. It's not "us" vs. "them", it should be both of us working together to give you great photos and video. We do everything we can to help the photographers get their shots without compromising ours. That said, we love working with Zack Glenn of BowTie Photography, and even offer a discount for booking us together. Check him out in the "PHOTOGRAPHY" tab, above. Also, we do a TON of weddings, which means we've encountered TONS of amazing wedding professionals. However, that also means that on occasion we've encountered some UNprofessionals. If you'd like to check in with me regarding my thoughts on a particular photographer before you book them, I'd be happy to give you my honest opinion.
I'VE HEARD OF VIDEOGRAPHERS THAT TAKE MONTHS TO DELIVER, ARE YOU THE SAME?
That's just downright silly. Highlight videos are done within 2 days after the wedding (or same day for the SDE option), and the extended cut/final discs are ready in 1 to 2 weeks. This is my full time job, I edit 10 hours a day on weekdays to make sure you get what you pay for in a timely manner.
WHY DON'T YOU OFFER DVDs?
DVDs cannot play high def. I shoot in high def. I REFUSE TO DESTROY MY WORK SO YOU CAN WATCH IT ON YOUR OBSOLETE MACHINES!!! Okay jk, I'll do it if you realllllly want me to, but DVDs are as obsolete as VHS. In addition to Blurays, I'll also give you the HD files in a format compatible to be streamed to your fancy Apple TVs.
I'M KIND OF A HUGE BRIDEZILLA... WILL YOU STILL WORK WITH ME?
Nope!
...but in all seriousness, no. In order to make GOOD videos, I have to enjoy what I'm doing. Plus if you're crazy and stressed out on the day of your wedding, I guarantee you it will show through in your video and that's not something I can fix in editing.
I'M LIKE CRAZY INTERESTED IN BOOKING YOU, WHAT'S THE NEXT STEP?
Shoot me an email to ryan.geldermann@gmail.com with both your names, your date, and anything else you want me to know. I'll respond within a few hours to answer any question you have. If we like each other (we will), we sign some stuff and you're all set!
